The Life of the Coffee Bean
Coffee beans are the seeds of the coffee plant. According to legend, the coffee plant was discovered in Ethiopia by a goat herder named Kaldi around 850 AD, who observed increased physical activity in his goats after they consumed coffee beans. The coffee plant was first found in the mountains of Yemen and was cultivated there by the 16th century. Coffee drinking spread rapidly among Arabs and their neighbors and even gave rise to a new social and cultural entity, the coffeehouse. The coffee plant is grown in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of Central and South America, Africa, and Asia . The two most commonly grown species of coffee are Arabica and Robusta . Arabica coffee is considered to be of higher quality and is grown at higher altitudes, while Robusta coffee is more bitter and has a higher caffeine content . PRESIDENT & CEO
Penelope Lopez
Meet Penelope Lopez, the passionate entrepreneur, President and CEO, with a love for creativity and a keen eye for design. Fueled by her desire to bring joy to people's everyday lives, she embarked on a journey to create a store that delivers unique mugs to coffee and tea enthusiasts around the world. Penelope's vision for her store was born out of her own love for a great mug. She noticed the lack of variety and originality in the market, and saw an opportunity to fill the gap with designs. With a background in talent for spotting emerging trends, she set out to create a collection of mugs that would not only serve as functional vessels for beverages, but also as works of art that customers would cherish. Drawing inspiration from her travels, nature, and her own imagination, Penelope when choosing a mug design, ensured that every piece told a story and evoked a sense of delight in the people who used them. From playful patterns to whimsical illustrations, each mug idea bore the mark of Penelope's spirit, making them more than just drinkware, but an extension of the user's personality and style. Challenges arose along the way, but Penelope's resilience and passion kept her focused on her goal. She painstakingly researched the market, honed her branding, and built an online platform that showcased her creations to the world. With a deep understanding of her target audience, she curated a product range that spoke to their individual tastes and preferences, earning a loyal following of customers who eagerly awaited each new release. Penelope's commitment to her craft remained steadfast. She engaged with her community, seeking their input and feedback to continuously evolve her designs. Her mugs became more than just products; they became a means for connection, bringing people together over shared appreciation for artistry and fine craftsmanship. Personal challenges seemed insurmountable, but she prevailed and continues the fight. Penelope, also known as Penny, is a fighter who has overcome cancer twice. She is a 16-year survivor of thyroid cancer and a 10-year survivor of Stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy with reconstruction and developed cardiomyopathy as a result of the 20 rounds of chemotherapy. Despite these challenges, she remained strong and resilient. In April 2023, Penny had a stroke that left her right side paralyzed, unable to talk, walk, or use her arm or fingers. With strong faith, she prayed and kept trying to make her paralyzed side work -- and it did. She began talking, then walking. Now she is in occupational, speech, and physical therapy. Her arm has yet to recover, but she is a person purposed with God. Penny took a medical leave of the non-profit that she owned, which required physical labor serving the homeless and the food-insecure, and started this company. Her story is an inspiration to many, and her unwavering faith and determination are truly remarkable. We wish her all the best in her continued recovery and future endeavor.
